July 2, 2010

I saw this last night.

It was acceptable.

Things happen.  The interesting parts of the book are given prominence over the “no, I love u more” dialog that eats up so many pages of this series.

I had forgotten that the Twilight vampires shatter like marble when killed.  An elegantly hokey solution to a gore-issue that the story will need to compensate for, as the action of the plot centers around War!  A gruesome battle between good, also good, and generic supernatural menace.  So the vampires shattering into marble looks and sounds pretty cool.  That is as much of an actual horror movie as they’ve deigned to go for.

I ain’t the target audience for this stuff.  Why do I insist on following it?

Shock Value is my prized commodity.  The eyeroll and “huh?” when a guest sees the Kiki’s Delivery Service wall scroll in my living room (ladies, form an orderly queue), or when someone spies Gay Sex in the 70s on my NetFlix stream fuels my willingness to experience media that might not be of obvious interest.  It is asinine and juvenile, but to love me is to reconcile with this.  “Let’s watch CSPAN!” or “Let’s watch TBN!” or “Let’s Watch a Left Behind movie!”

I’ve now seen all the Twilight movies, and I’ve read all the Twilight books that have been thus far made into movies.

What am I holding out for?  I’m sure it will be the same misshapen page turner the other three are.
